
Basic Approach
- Research client situation to understand current and anticipated needs.
- Develop actual or hypothetical scenarios for training session.
- Conduct half-day session with no more than three to four individuals:
- One person conducts videotaped mock interview;
- One person observes interview and records notes;
- Both persons provide feedback and critique during playback;
- First person conducts a second interview, after feedback and critique;
- Both persons provide follow-up feedback and critique during playback.
- Provide media relations reminder manual with written summary report.
Representative Experience
San Diego Natural History Museum: two half-day sessions training senior and marketing management on key messages and media relations relating to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit.
Greater San Diego Chamber of Commerce: one half-day session training new president and executive vice president on basic media relations.
Republic Health Corporation/Western Division: two full-day sessions training several levels of senior managers in 10 hospitals on crisis communications and basic media relations.
North Island Federal Credit Union: two half-day sessions training senior management and Board chairman on crisis communications and basic media relations.
Grossmont Healthcare District: one half-day session training new Board chairman and executive director on basic media relations.
Other: numerous similar and also less formal, less structured media training sessions and assistance for virtually all clients over a 25-year career.
